2008 is going to be Great!

Winter Words

As an abstract painter I am constantly and pleasantly surprised that so many art lovers get it!

Is it the times? Did the contemporary art scene made the impact modernists expected? Yes to answer that. The scene in the art world shifted and all you have to do is look at the living artist market and see that . Abstract Expressionism  was a successful revolution.

In 1957 art historian Meyer Schapiro gave the crowds a clue. He said , " In moving away from representation, art could offer a means of solace and upliftment in a culture driving itself with industry, economy and state" (Art News/November 2007,pg.179). He championed the modern painter. He saw the abstract artist as an exemplar of the freedom of creative intelligence. But even more than using the
potential you are born with, Schapiro pointed out that nonrepresentational painting contained deep spiritual dimension. As diverse cultures in the same mix, when humans embrace color, line, shape and texture in all the patterns possible and impossible, we become the embodiment of religious life.

Installation Art is All the Buzz

What is the artist saying with the flurry of installation art hitting the gallery floors?  These pieces of work aren't sculpture as we know it, nor are they artifact. I suggest they are living inspiration. Humans are a 3-D designed machine. Look at the hand. It is 'in this world'. Perhaps Installation Art is a show of the eternal hand that touches both the nonphysical and the physical allowing the viewer to not just stand at attention before a painting but experience the full circle dimension Installation Art offers.

I know when I went to the Chalk Pyramids earlier this winter , I went for artistic inspiration and I made that long haul drive to view the Installation Art left by the history of our Earth.
